I like this
cover for multiple reasons. For example, it involves humour within the tagline that says “Kiss
My A*s”. I also like how it shows little pictures of the articles within. This
enables them to get people interested in the whole magazine just from looking
at the front cover.
I like this magazine cover because of a few
reasons. These include the midshot of the main photo and the style of the typography.
However, while there are other articles advertised, they are not done in the
most interesting way.
I
think that this cover is not the best for a number of reasons. For instance,
the typography is poorly done, with garish colours to the fonts that make it
hard to read. Furthermore, the photo is a bit boring, not showing much that
relates to the articles. It says “What do you think about the new school
uniform?” yet the photo only shows someone’s shoulders and face. Finally, the
title “Skool Mag” is trying to be cool, and relate to the audience, however, I do
not think this works.
This
cover looks to have been done by someone with some knowledge of media. For
example, the typography of the title and subtitles is interesting, the colours
work together, the photos are well taken, being in focus and the main one is a
midshot. Finally, I like how the other articles are advertised around the main
photo.
I
feel that this cover is decent. While it does have a midshot, the focus and
quality of the photo is way below par. Also, while it does feature examples of
other articles around the main photo, they are hard to understand. Finally, I feel
that the title is good. It is bold, short and to the point.
I have learnt from doing this research,
what makes a good and bad magazine cover. I now know that if a photo is not
good quality, or it is not a midshot, it can look unprofessional. Also, if the
texts and fonts are hard to read, then it can make the cover uninteresting and
people don’t have the will to carry on reading the magazine. Finally, I have
learnt that the title is one of the most important things on the cover, having
to be bold, short and to the point.
